The Most Animated Little Girl in the World

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Over the weekend, I attended my niece’s birthday party.

I don’t have girls, so I don’t know much about the face sparkles or doing little girl hair or twirling.

But I do know that my niece is deliciously fun to watch in all of her divaness.

Bette Midler, eat your heart out.

Keeper

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I have to admit, I cried a little when I saw this image come out of the hopper.

That’s my Mom on the left and my “favorite big brother” on the right. And the photo was taken on my birthday.

I don’t always check to see what the images look like after I click the shutter. I seem to do best when I just relax and start shooting.

This is proof that I was VERY relaxed.

I think it had something to do with the margaritas.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

I love LOVE this image.

From the hat to the wood paneling to the suspenders to the mystery of what they were whispering to each other that afternoon — I love it all.

Between the two of these guys (my sister’s father-in-law on the left, and my father on the right), there was over 160 years of wisdom sitting in my mom’s living room that day. Add to it the age of the living room itself — the walls of which could tell HUNDREDS of stories — and the number leaps to well over 200 years.

Whether or not they heard what the other was saying, though, is the true mystery of the day.

Empty Bottles Go HERE

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Over the weekend, my brother and I went to Sacramento’s “Second Saturday” event in Midtown.

During one of our stops for a cocktail, my brother nabbed a table that we could lean against while chatting and sipping. When he first claimed it, the table was empty.

Then, one-by-one, as people were exiting the bar, they used the table we were so proud of finding as an empty bottle dumping ground.

Never ones to let others ruin our spirit, we decided to arrange the bottles for a blog photo. The blue hue is coming from a bright neon sign behind us.

A Rare Glimpse

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Meet Benny. A.K.A. “Benzilla.”

I am rarely able to get a good shot of Benny, as he has two speeds: Fast, and Speedy Gonzales. This photo was taken as he was running down the stairs to watch his brother play football. Thank you, Nikon, for your exceptionally fast shutter speeds.

Not Just ANY Stairs

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Okay. I know to the the naked eye, these appear to be stairs. OLD stairs at that.

But if  you look closer, you’ll see the image of a nervous 12-year-old girl and a confident 12-year-old boy.

Kissing.

I got my very first kiss on this very day, on those very stairs, in 1985.

Exactly WHOSE lips I kissed will forever remain a secret. Because he had a girlfriend at the time . . .

His Happy Place

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Meet my father, Frank.

Frank is in his happy place — lounging on the backyard patio he built with his bare hands in 1961. As you might imagine, Frank’s happy place is much happier with an ice chest full of cold beer and the company of any (or all) of his seven surviving adult children.

Get your laugh on, Dad.
